Piano accessories can be found from a variety of different music stores, websites, and companies. But what are piano accessories, and are they really worth the money?
“Piano accessories” is a term that encompasses a wide variety of items, all of which relate to piano playing. While there isn’t a definite line as to whether these things must be used for piano playing, they are all helpful. Essentially, piano accessories are any items that you might use to help you play (or practice) the piano.
Some of the more common piano accessories are those you might see in a typical piano parlor or studio: metronomes, piano lamps, and organizers for sheet music. An accessory company might also offer such things as pedal extensions (for children whose legs are too short to reach the pedals,) and other odds and ends that help keep a piano in good condition. You might also find knick-knacks and decorations with music notes on them – after all, these companies know their target audience is interested in music, so they’ll sell anything that will get them a profit.
There are plenty of companies out there that sell piano accessories, so you shouldn’t have any difficulty finding a good metronome or piano lamp, if that’s what you’re looking for. You might run into trouble, however, finding one at a reasonable price. The problem is, these companies know that they have a narrow client base, and the equipment they sell is usually very specific to a musician’s need. That means it can often be very expensive to make. Along with this, most people who can afford music lessons can also afford to worry about how good their piano room looks – a lot of these accessories will be marketed, not only on their functionality, but also on how good they look. You may have to spend a good deal in order to get a high-quality music accessory.
That’s not to say that there aren’t cheaper alternatives. There are digital metronomes that can come much cheaper than the typical “grandfather clock” pendulums. And these digital types are usually smaller and more portable than their more expensive counterparts. They may be more ugly or irritating, but they’ll get the job done. And if you’re looking for more light, a piano lamp can help – but so can a good floor lamp. Just increasing the light in your room may be able to help you enough, if you’re not willing to fork over the dough for a good piano light. Shop around – there are usually cheaper alternatives, even within the music shops.
