    He is trying to teach you do make up chords easily by using scales, thats how I figure my chords I use the tonal key and find the scale and put the chords together.

    If you play the C …
    If you play the C chord, It resolves the melody. So playing Fmajor with the C (FMaj being the IV chord in the C major scale) gives it tension.
